It's time to move on - outgoing Wrexham chairman Geoff Moss
Wrexham chairman Geoff Moss has carried out his threat to resign from his position at the Blue Square Premier club.
A week ago, he said he was "deadly serious" about his warning to quit because of abusive criticism from fans.
Director Ian Roberts has taken over as chairman at the Racecourse while Moss will remain on the board.
"I think it's time to move on and have a fresh start," Moss told BBC Sport Wales on Friday.
"Ian is an extremely capable man to carry this forward and maybe a fresh approach to the whole situation we've encountered may be the answer."
The relationship between Moss and certain fans has soured over recent weeks, culminating in the now ex-chairman asking police to investigate following what he calls "very offensive" messages from some supporters.
"I think being a chairman of a football club whether it be Wrexham or anywhere is a pretty thankless task," said Moss who is also the owner of Super League side Crusaders.
"It's probably a job for no more than two years."
New Wrexham chairman Ian Roberts calls on fans to back the board
Businessman Moss took sole control of Wrexham after buying out the 50% stake owned by former chairman Neville Dickens in 2008.
The pair rescued the club from administration in 2006, and Moss has reportedly invested more than £4m of his own money to keep the club afloat.
He also played an instrumental role in persuading former Wales striker Dean Saunders to take over as manager in October 2008.
New chairman Roberts has called for supporters to get behind the team and blamed misunderstandings from both sides, but insisted "a line has been drawn in the sand".
"It was probably best to describe it as we were in World War One, both in our trenches and were throwing bombs at each other," said Roberts.
"But now we intend to move forward and engage with the fans. People of Wrexham are the heart and soul of the club."
