Club owner 'washes hands' of fans

The Racecourse
The Supporters' Trust will no longer feature for free in programmes

Wrexham FC owner Geoff Moss has said he has "washed" his hands of the club's largest supporters group.

Mr Moss claimed Wrexham Supporters' Trust (WST) had refused to help fund the club's centre of excellence.

He also said the trust was fixated with owning a stake of the club and said they would no longer be given free space in official programmes.

WST described Mr Moss's comments as "unfortunate", but said it would not enter a "tit for tat slanging match".

Businessman Mr Moss said the club lost half of its grant for funding the centre of excellence after losing league status last season.

Wrexham FC is still coming to terms with life in the Blue Square Premier after 87 years in the Football League.

Mr Moss said he was trying to raise 60,000 to ensure the centre of excellence continued, and said several local groups had donated generously.

The society will not be drawn into a tit for tat slanging match with Mr Moss and it is our intention to refrain from further public comment on these issues

He said the club had approached WST because "they have money".

But he added: "Subsequently, they have refused to help the youth centre of excellence. I guess you could say that incensed me a little bit.

"Therefore, why should the football club give them commercial space in our programme to raise money for themselves?

"I have just washed my hands of them. I have come to the end of my tether.

"I have urged them to come on and help the football club but they obviously have a fixation with equity purchase which they are not going to get.

"The supporters' trust has one aim and one aim only and that's to take control of the football club, and that's not going to happen."

Trust members were unavailable for comment, but in a message on its website it said it intended to address Mr Moss's comments in a newsletter next week.

It said it was "unfortunate" Mr Moss had spoken publicly about the matter and said the club should be focused on returning to the Football League.

The statement added: "As a result of which the society will not be drawn into a tit for tat slanging match with Mr Moss and it is our intention to refrain from further public comment on these issues."
