Wrexham captain Darren Ferguson says the club's off-field problems wrecked their play-off chances. Speaking after the 2-0 home loss to Brighton in their final game, the 32-year-old also questioned his decision to sign a new deal at the Racecourse.
"There have been things going on at the club that shouldn't have, ask any of the players," said Ferguson.
"I've been here five years and signed for another three, but I have to wonder if it was the right decision."

The players wages at Wrexham have been paid late four times this season, and there is speculation over the fate of the club's Racecourse ground. "When I signed I was told that the club was moving forward, but now I'm not so sure," Ferguson told BBC Sport Wales.
"Until Christmas we had a good chance of the play-offs, but injuries and off-field problems really disturbed the season.
Wrexham fans protest against chairman Mark Guterman |
"We've stuck together as a squad, developed a siege mentality and done our bit on the field, but off the pitch it has been a nonsense. "We know other clubs have problems, but that's a side issue.
"We're a small, second division club who have always coped with crowds of around 4,000, we're not going to get 8,000.
"I have no idea what will happen in the summer. I don't think the manager knows what's happening or what budget he will have."
Manager Denis Smith had sympathy with the plight of his players.
"It's been difficult since Christmas with all that's going on in the media," he said. "If the players are not getting paid on time the wife gets on their back and it makes life tough.
"I like the club and the area, but just at the moment I'm fed up with trying to make things work.
"We've got good staff and good players so we'll just keep trying to keep the place going."
