Edwards played for Wales in the recent match against Montenegro
Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards has signed a new contract that will keep the Wales international at the Premier League club until 2013.
The 24-year-old, who joined Wolves from Luton for an undisclosed fee in January 2008, has signed a three-year deal with an option for a fourth year.
"It is a great confidence booster to feel wanted at a club," Edwards told the club's website.
"I've loved every minute of being here, it's so perfect for me here."
Edwards, who still had two years to go on his previous deal, played an important role in the club's Premier League campaign last season before suffering an ankle injury in the victory at Tottenham in December.
Edwards underwent surgery to fix the problem and was able to return for the final five games of the season.
However, he has had a frustrating start to this campaign after suffering an abductor tear while training with Wales during the summer.
Edwards did play in the Carling Cup victory over Southend at the end of August and is currently battling to win back his place in the first team.
"For the gaffer to say he wants to offer me a new contract shows he has got faith in me," added Edwards.
"Hopefully I can repay that by getting in the team and putting in some performances."
Manager Mick McCarthy said: "Dave made a major contribution as the team won the Championship title and then showed he could play in the Premier League last season.
"I'm delighted he has signed a new long-term contract and look forward to seeing him developing further in the future."
Edwards joins George Elokobi, Matt Jarvis, Jody Craddock, Stephen Ward, Sam Vokes and Wayne Hennessey in signing new contracts with Wolves over the last few months.
