Edwards pens new Wolves contract

Edwards is keen to prove himself in the Premier League

Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards has signed a new three-year deal with the Premier League newcomers.

Edwards, 23, was recruited from Luton in January 2008 and played a major part in the club's promotion last season as they claimed the Championship title.

"It's great to get it done on the first day of pre-season," Edwards told the Wolves website.

"To know I'm here for another three years and that the manager wants me is something I'm very proud of."

Edwards follows Karl Henry, Kevin Foley, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Jody Craddock in signing new deals this summer as manager Mick McCarthy prepares for the upcoming campaign.

"Signing a contract to go into the Premier League is something I have to pinch myself about if I look back over the last three or four years," said Edwards.

"I'm certainly not taking anything for granted though and feel very privileged to be in the position I'm in."

He added: "The gaffer has got a very good nucleus here which he doesn't want to break up and the lads have done their utmost on the pitch to help each other and help the team be successful.

"It's good that he's keeping the squad together but he's obviously also going to bring in some extra quality as well to add to what's already here."
