Wolves striker Ebanks-Blake says team in confident mood

Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake is confident that both he and his team are in good shape with the new Premier League season just four days away.

"I think we've had a good pre-season," Ebanks-Blake told BBC WM, after scoring against Athletic Bilbao in Wolves' 2-1 friendly victory on Saturday.

"We've all got some minutes on the pitch, won a few games, and had some hard tests," he added.

"We all feel fit and we've got a good squad. We're looking forward to it."

Ebanks-Blake struggled for form throughout last season, scoring only twice, but said his partnership with new signing Steven Fletcher in the Athletic Bilbao game showed promise.

I never set targets. I'll just stay as fit as I can, play as many games as I can, and with that hopefully goals will come.

"He's a good player, and when good players play together it works out," he said.

"We didn't do badly last year - we stayed in the league, finished in a respectable position, and we played some good football at times and turned some teams over.

"All we want to do this year is stay in the league and build on what we did last year."

Wolves' Premier League survival last season came despite a dearth of goals, especially at Molineux where they found the net only 13 times.

"We always want to score more goals," said Ebanks-Blake. "But we stay solid, and we don't lose games, and that's what kept us up."

Ebanks-Blake is confident he can raise his personal tally this time around - but doesn't have a particular figure in mind.

"No, I never set targets," he said. "I'll just stay as fit as I can, play as many games as I can, and with that hopefully goals will come."
