Wolves have completed the signing of Andrew Surman from Southampton for a fee thought be about £1.2m.

The England Under-21 international, who can play in midfield or at left-back, has signed a three-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.

The moves gives debt-ridden Southampton a much-needed cash injection as they continue their search for a new buyer.

"To come to the Premier League and with a club as big as Wolves is fantastic," the 22-year-old told Wolves' website.

Surman made 142 appearances for Saints, scoring 18 goals, including one at Molineux, a long-range effort in the 6-0 win over Wolves in 2007.

"We'd had a disappointing season at Southampton. I think we had enough quality in the team to be able to do something but unfortunately it all went sour and we ended up getting relegated, which is never nice to have on your CV," he added.

"I'm ready to go again with Wolves. Even though it looks a young side here it's also a very experienced side when you consider how many games they have played."

Surman joins record signing Kevin Doyle, Marcus Hahnemann and Nenad Milijas at Molineux, with manager Mick McCarthy keen to strengthen his squad over the summer following the club's promotion to the Premier League.
