Too many had an off-day - Henry

Henry knows Wolves must improve for the Southampton game

Wolves midfielder Karl Henry admits they could not afford to have as many players struggling for form as they did in the 2-0 defeat at Birmingham.

The Molineux club failed to capitalise on playing more than half the game against 10 men after Blues skipper Lee Carsley was sent off on Monday.

"I think you can afford two or three average performances in your team and still win," Henry told BBC WM.

"When there's seven or eight of you not playing well it costs us."

The result leaves Wolves two points clear of Blues at the top of the Championship with five games remaining, but Henry was left rueing a missed opportunity.

I think we were awful, but we're still top of the league - we can't dwell on this

"It's 0-0, then they're down to 10 men and we think we're in a good position," said the former Stoke City midfielder.

"It's a massive disappointment, I think we were awful, but we're still top of the league and we've got to kick on, we can't dwell on this."

Wolves make a quick return to action on Good Friday when relegation-threatened Southampton come to Molineux, although Henry, 26, knows they will need a much better performance.

"I just think we were full of errors at the back. Every ball that was bouncing in and around our back four seemed to be causing us trouble," he said.

"From start to finish we thought we were poor."
