Kightly has now missed most of the last two months |
Wolves winger Michael Kightly has suffered another setback on his return from an ankle injury. The problem, which has kept Kightly out for almost two months, recurred after his late appearance as a substitute in Saturday's Cup win at Watford.
"He was fine but trained for 20 minutes on Sunday and just felt his ankle again," boss Mick McCarthy told BBC WM.
"Whether it's just a reaction to him returning and overloading it, we're not sure. We'll have it checked this week."
Kightly first damaged his ankle in the Black Country derby at the end of November but came back in Wolves' FA Cup third round win over Cambridge at the beginning of January.
The comeback was short-lived though as the injury flared up again and he missed Wolves' next two games.
Saturday's fleeting appearance at Vicarage Road was Kightly's latest attempt to step up his rehabilitation but the joint is still causing concern.
"I brought him on as much for his sake as anyone else's," McCarthy added. "We won't know what the problem is until we get it looked at."
