Cort secures Wolves switch
Newcastle striker Carl Cort
Carl Cort has completed his 2m move from Newcastle to Wolves.

Cort has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Premiership strugglers, bringing an end to his nightmare spell at St James' Park.

He played just 25 games and scored eight goals for Newcastle after a 7m move from Wimbledon in July 2000.

He has endured a succession of injury problems and Newcastle decided Wolves' offer was too good to turn down.

Goals have been a problem all season for Wolves and manager Dave Jones will be hoping Cort can help boost a side who have scored just 19 times in 22 Premiership games.

That boy has gone from one horrendous injury to another
Sir Bobby Robson
Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson earlier defended his decision to pay 7m for the player, and backed him to produce the goods at Molineux.

Robson said: "I'll stand up for my judgement on Carl Cort.

"He will prove to be a Premiership player and he might kick us in the teeth one day - I hopes he does.

"I wish him well. That boy has gone from one horrendous injury to another, but he never gave me one moment of problems.

"He soldiered on and in the meantime obviously, we brought Craig Bellamy in, Shola Ameobi has matured, we see Michael Chopra coming up.

"We think we can afford to let him go, but Carl Cort will turn out to be a good buy."
