Wigan manager Martinez expects a 'really tight finish'
Roberto Martinez knows Wigan must improve to avoid the drop
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez believes this season's Premier League relegation fight could be the closest ever.
The Latics go into the last eight games of the campaign in 15th position, just four points clear of the drop zone.
Martinez told BBC Radio Manchester: "You've got a big amount of teams trying to avoid relegation and I think that's the nature of this season.
"It's going to be a lot tighter than other seasons. It's going to be a really tight finish."
He added: "At the top you're looking at three teams trying to get the title; then another four for the fourth place; then eight teams trying to get away from those three positions (at the bottom).
"We're hoping we can get more points in the next few games, because the last thing you want is going into the last game of the season where it's going to be very emotional and it can be away from the football talent. That's a difficult situation.
"We need to focus game by game and now we need to focus on Burnley. It's a big fixture at home and we'll be ready for it."
