Wigan defender Maynor Figueroa is facing several weeks on the sidelines after damaging knee ligaments.
The 26-year-old Honduran international was injured during Wigan's 3-1 win at Burnley on 24 October.
Lactics boss Martinez said: "Maynor has had a second scan and has a tear in the medial ligament in his left knee.
"It is not as bad as we feared. He will be out for between six and seven weeks. "Maynor is a strong man and very fit - we will support him as much as we can."
Martinez added: "It is a big blow when any player is injured as we have a small squad and everyone has a massive role. But it is part of football and you have to cope."
Figueroa suffered the injury early on in Saturday's game and was replaced after 28 minutes by Jordi Gomez, although Martinez revealed the Honduran wanted to continue playing.
Figueroa has been an ever present for Wigan this season playing in all 10 league games so his absence will be a huge loss to his team.
"He actually wanted to carry on, but the injury was serious and he couldn't do so," said Martinez.
"It's not an injury that he would have damaged any further as it was just a tear - it's muscle problems that can get worse - but Maynor felt so uncomfortable that he had to come off."
