Chimbonda has said he wants to join Tottenham |
Wigan have rejected a bid from West Ham for full-back Pascal Chimbonda. The Hammers are believed to have offered about 4m for the Frenchman, who handed in a transfer request on the final day of last season.
The 28-year-old enjoyed a fine first season at Wigan, being named in the Premiership team of the year.
Tottenham are also keen to buy Chimbonda - currently a member of France's World Cup squad - and have had bids of 2.5m and 3m turned down.
Chimbonda angered the Latics by submitting a written transfer request to manager Paul Jewell immediately after their last-day defeat to Arsenal at Highbury.
That prompted chairman Dave Whelan, who signed Chimbonda for 500,000 from Bastia last summer, to place a 6m asking price on the defender.
Jewell insisted that he "will not go on the cheap. That is the price and we will not let him go for less".
