West Ham boss Alan Pardew has admitted that Hammers' fans influenced his decision not to pursue his interest in Tottenham striker Fredi Kanoute. "There has been a negative feeling among our fan base here that suggests that it might not be right to bring him back," Pardew told BBC Radio Five Live.
"I'd be foolish to ignore that. If I felt he was the man to keep us in the Premiership I'd have a tough decision."
The 27-year-old Mali striker joined Spurs from West Ham for 3.5m in 2003.
He scored 33 goals in three years at Upton Park, but fell out of favour with the Hammers' faithful during his final season with the club. He attracted criticism from some fans who felt he did not always show the commitment to back up his ability.
Pardew, meanwhile, said he had other striking targets in mind.
"He's one of a number of options and maybe I would do better to challenge one of the other options," he said.
"I'm looking at it closely, I wouldn't say anything for definite, but at the moment maybe our thoughts are elsewhere."
