Donk may play on despite injury

Tony Mowbray
Mowbray has 11 first-team players under treatment

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Mowbray admits he may have to play Ryan Donk against Manchester United, even though he is not fully fit.

The Dutch central defender was substituted because of a groin injury in the 2-2 FA Cup draw with Burnley.

But Mowbray says more serious injuries to other central defenders may force his hand in team selection on Tuesday.

Mowbray told the club website: "Let's hope he doesn't have to over-stretch it in the opening minutes."

Donk is one of 11 senior players in the treatment room at The Hawthorns - five of them are central defenders.

"If we do decide to risk him, it's a wait-and-see situation. It's not ideal," Mowbray added.

Jonas Olsson (knee), Abdoulaye Meite, Leon Barnett, Shelton Martis (all hamstring) and long-term absentee Neil Clement (knee) are all sidelined.

In addition, Baggies captain Jonathan Greening could be out for anything from two to eight weeks, depending on the results of a scan on his damaged medial knee ligament.
