Craig Beattie has a chance to prove himself south of the border |
West Brom have signed Celtic striker Craig Beattie on a three-year deal for an initial 1.25m. Baggies manager Tony Mowbray has long admired Beattie, 23, and tried to sign him last summer while Hibernian boss.
Mowbray told West Brom's website: "Craig will bring qualities to our team that we lacked last season. He still has room for development in his game.
"He will hopefully progress here as a footballer. Craig has shown desire and determination to do well in England."
The fee for Beattie, who has been capped four times by Scotland and scored once, may increase by a further 500,000 depending on performance-related add-ons.
Mowbray added: "Craig already has Champions League and international experience. His main attributes are playing on the shoulder of the last defender.
"He utilises his pace and power well and manages to get in behind defences to score goals."

Beattie was released by boyhood club Rangers before moving across Glasgow to Parkhead.
He made his senior debut as a substitute in Celtic's Champions League qualifying win over Kaunas in August 2003.
But his Parkhead career was ravaged by injury - he made only 23 starts after his debut in 2003.
And it was clear he no longer figured in the Scottish champions' plans when he was left out of the squad for the club's pre-season tour of Switzerland.
