Ellington is said to be keen on a move to Wigan |
West Brom will sell Nathan Ellington if they receive a suitable offer. Ellington, 25, is reported to be keen to return to Wigan and the Baggies have accepted a written transfer request.
The striker, who played for the Latics between 2002 and 2005, has suffered a spate of injuries at The Hawthorns, scoring 12 goals in 33 appearances.
Chairman Jeremy Peace confirmed: "The manager and board have reluctantly accepted Nathan's transfer request but no-one will leave unless it suits us."
Ellington, who is rated at 3m, has two-and-a-half years left on his contract and has cited both personal and professional reasons for wanting to leave.
Peace added: "We've had a long and very amicable chat with Nathan and are sympathetic to his circumstances.
"However, (manager) Tony Mowbray has stressed on numerous occasions that Nathan is an important member of his playing squad.
"Nathan has a proven track record at this level and we will only sell him if we receive an acceptable offer.
"We have stated all along we are under no pressure to sell any of our players."
Ellington joined Wigan from Bristol Rovers for 1.2m in 2002 and helped the club reach the top flight for the first time following a successful 2004-05 campaign.
He was sold to West Brom at the end of that season for 3m but has had limited chances in the first team.
