Watford have accepted an offer from Portsmouth for forward Tommy Smith.
Only hours earlier, the Hornets had accepted an offer from Reading for the 29-year-old Smith.
Smith must now decide whether to join former Watford manager Brendan Rodgers at the Madejski Stadium or step up to the Premier League with Portsmouth.
A statement on the Hornets' website said: "Watford can confirm the club has received and accepted an offer from Portsmouth for attacker Tommy Smith."
Smith, who has played for Derby and Sunderland, was left out of the Watford squad for Tuesday's Carling Cup second round tie at Leeds.
The forward was the subject of a £1.8m bid from Sheffield United earlier in the summer.
