Shittu still keen on Ibrox move

Watford defender Danny Shittu says he is still keen on a move to Rangers despite blaming the Ibrox club for the collapse of the deal.

The 27-year-old travelled to Glasgow last weekend to finalise the transfer after the clubs agreed a 1.5m fee.

But Rangers pulled out of the deal when personal terms could not be agreed.

"They put a proposal on the table which I accepted but when it came to putting the contract in writing the deal had changed," said Shittu.

"This is where the breakdown in talks has come as far as I'm concerned.

"I know there is other interest out there but my first choice remains Rangers and I still believe a deal can be done.

"I certainly haven't closed the door on the move but it's up to Rangers."

Rangers manager Walter Smith appears to have closed the door on the transfer.

"We have not managed to reach an agreement on that one so it looks as though we are finished there now," he told the club website.

Shittu has also been linked with Celtic this summer and several Premier League clubs have made enquiries about the Nigerian international.
