Watford intent on keeping Shittu

Watford defender Danny Shittu
Shittu has been with Watford since leaving QPR in 2006

Watford chairman Graham Simpson says the Championship outfit have no desire to sell defender Danny Shittu, despite interest from Premier League clubs.

And he said there had been no contact from Celtic and Rangers, despite reports linking both sides of the Old Firm with the 27-year-old Nigerian.

"We have had inquiries from Premier League clubs but no offers for Danny," Simpson told BBC Sport.

"Danny is still with us and that's the way it is staying."

Centre-half Shittu, who arrived from QPR in 2006, is due to return to Vicarage Road with the rest of the Watford squad for pre-season training on Monday.

Simpson this week indicated that he is willing to step aside as chairman should a buyer be found for the club.

That followed an announcement from Watford that there had been a tentative approach from a third party.
