Chris Hutchings' Walsall have won two of their last three league matches

Walsall manager Chris Hutchings is confident that his side can take the momentum from their win at Charlton into the busy Christmas period.

The Saddlers have not played since that 1-0 victory on 12 December, as their home game against Southampton six days later fell victim to the weather.

Hutchings told BBC WM: "We wanted to play but those decisions are not ours.

"We're preparing as professionally as we can and hopefully we can hit the ground running when we start again."

Walsall, who are five points from safety in League One, face three sides currently in the bottom six in consecutive matches, starting with a trip to Bristol Rovers on Boxing Day.

Hutchings' side then face Dagenham & Redbridge (28 December) and Notts County (1 January) at the Bescot Stadium.

Rovers sacked manager Paul Trollope on 15 December after slipping into the relegation zone and exiting the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at the hands of Exeter.

"Obviously it's a difficult time for them," the Walsall boss added. "The previous manager did a very good job there and nobody likes to see anybody lose their job.

"Whoever's in charge, whether it be on a temporary basis or a permanent basis, all of the players will be trying to show the new manager what they're all about.

"They are a big club, people tend to forget that and it will be a good job for someone.

"What they've done is their business and we've just got to continue looking after ourselves."
