McGivern made 14 appearances whilst on loan at Leicester City

Walsall's new signing Ryan McGivern says he is happy to be at the Banks's Stadium after signing a season-long loan deal from Manchester City.

The defender has won 11 caps for Northern Ireland and spent most of last season on loan at Leicester City.

The 20-year-old told the club's website: "I can't wait to get started and I'm very pleased to be here.

"It's all about playing as many games as possible and helping the club to promotion. The challenge excites me."

Walsall manager Chris Hutchings is delighted to have the left-back on board. "He is a young lad who we have been monitoring for some time and is a welcome addition to our squad.

"He certainly has pedigree behind him and we are grateful for Manchester City allowing him to come here and continue his footballing education."
