Walsall chairman and owner Jeff Bonser has hit back at claims that he has no ambition for the club.
Speaking to BBC WM, Bonser said: "I can't quite understand what planet people who keep asking that are on.
"This club has been more successful in the last 20 years that it has been in the previous 100.
"The facilities are better than most [Championship] clubs. We have a state-of-the-art training ground and our aim is to run everything financially well."
The Saddlers endured a rocky time towards the end of last season as they saw their push for promotion from League One fade.
The loss of key players Scott Dann and Dan Fox in January was followed by the departure of manager Richard Money in April.
But new boss Jimmy Mullen brought in new recruits and has guided the side into the top half of the table and the prospect of another shot at a return to the Championship.
