Michael Ricketts began his career with the Saddlers
Walsall boss Jimmy Mullen says Michael Ricketts has plenty to offer the club after a quiet return to action.
Ricketts, 29, came on as a substitute in Tuesday's friendly defeat against Wolves and had a couple of good chances to score for the Saddlers.
But Mullen told BBC WM Ricketts needs more work: "He's only been back with us for a couple of days so his touch isn't what it should be.
"He hasn't done much training but we have plenty of time to sharpen him up."
Mullen is confident the former England striker can make a big impact in League One: "He's a quality player and, on his day, he can win football matches.
"His sort of talent, you don't get every day of the week and he can give us that bit of quality that we've been missing," he added.
Mullen also said he will continue to keep a close on the fitness of Nick Chadwick.
The former Everton striker is at the Banks's Stadium on trial and Mullen is thinking about a possible deal.
"Nick's just coming back from a knee operation and he's pretty much playing catch-up with the other players.
"His record in the past has been quite good and we'll decide after we've seen what level of fitness we can get into him."
