Walsall caretaker-manager Jimmy Mullen has revealed he would be interested in succeeding Richard Money permanently.

Mullen has stepped up from his role as assistant manager, following Money's resignation on Tuesday.

The ex-Burnley boss told BBC WM: "The chairman asked me whether I would be interested in applying for the job.

"I said I've enjoyed my time here, I've had successful managerial experience at Burnley. I've been there, done it and got the t-shirt so why not?"

Mullen won the old Division Four title with the Clarets in 1992 and then led them to promotion through the play-offs in the division above two years later.

He added: "I love working at Walsall, it's a great little football club, I have a great working relationship with other members of staff here and I really enjoy it here."
