Tranmere can stay up, says Shuker

Tranmere Rovers midfielder Chris Shuker still has confidence that his team can get out of trouble in League One.

"There are so many points to play for at this stage," said Shuker, after scoring Rovers' equaliser in Saturday's 1-1 FA Cup draw at Leyton Orient.

"We're all in it together," he said. "We'd be worried if we had three games left. Then we'd be panicking.

"But the sooner we get it sorted and get points on the board, we can get out of it," he told BBC Radio Merseyside.

Rovers are yet to turn the corner since John Barnes' sacking on 9 October, having won just once in five league and cup games under caretaker boss Les Parry.

And they now stand four points adrift of safety ahead of three successive away games that could define their season.

Following Saturday's tough trip to Carrow Road, they then face two trips to Brisbane Road in five days, as they meet Orient in their FA Cup first round replay before facing them again in the league.

But, after being restored to the starting line-up on Saturday by Parry, Shuker hopes he can help them build on Saturday's draw.

Shuker had been dropped by the Rovers caretaker boss following Barnes' exit and put on the bench for six games. But the former Manchester City player has worked hard in training to get his place back - and was used in his preferred floating role on Saturday.

"I've had it for years in and out," he said. "I had it last year with Ronnie Moore for a few games.

"It works well and it definitely suits me. You've just got to play the right balls. There has got to be a bit of understanding.

"However long Les is in charge we'll work on it if he wants to carry on doing it."

"Since Les took over and he dropped me I've been working hard in training.

"I feel I've done well when I've come on and it's good to be back in and get a little goal."
