Defoe back in training for Spurs

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has returned to full training after more than two months on the sidelines with a foot injury.

The 26-year-old required surgery on a stress fracture to his right foot picked up in training in February.

Whilst the Premier League clash with Newcastle this Sunday could come too soon he could be in line to face Manchester United the following week.

"He's back and that's a big bonus for us," said Spurs manager Harry Redknapp.

"He was up very early, just like a kid at his first day at school. He's full of enthusiasm and he trained superbly, he looked really sharp, scored some fantastic goals.

"I'm sure there are a few goals left in him before the end of the season."

Defoe re-signed for Tottenham for a fee believed to be around £15m during the January transfer window after a year at Portsmouth.

He scored three goals in five games before suffering the injury.

This season Spurs have veered between the threat of relegation and the possibility of qualification for next season's Europa League.

They are currently ninth in the Premier League and seem set for a comfortable mid-table finish.
