Redknapp is gearing up for a busy month in the transfer market
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp believes he needs to add three or four players to his "badly balanced" squad during the January transfer window.
Redknapp said the playing staff he inherited from previous boss Juande Ramos lacks depth in key areas.
"We need a certain type here. We've got an awful lot of good little players but we need more strength and a bit more power in the team," he stated.
"It is a badly-balanced put-together squad, in all honesty, from day one."
Redknapp was speaking after Tottenham's 4-1 Carling Cup semi-final, first leg home win over Burnley.
England striker Jermain Defoe, who has rejoined Spurs from Portsmouth, was paraded on the pitch before kick-off.
Redknapp is hoping Defoe and Russian striker Roman Pavlyuchenko, who scored on Tuesday, can strike up a deadly partnership.
"I hope Jermain can play with Pavlyuchenko," said Redknapp. "Before, Spurs paid �16m for Bent, and �14m for Pavlyuchenko and they say they couldn't play together.
"Jermain is important to us. The little fellow will score goals and gives us all a lift."
Redknapp took over from Ramos in October and maintains he has his work cut out building a side capable of competing in the Premier League.
"We have not really got a squad. If you look at my team tonight, that was the best I have available," he added.
"We have not got any strength in depth or cover - if Gareth Bale gets a knock there is no-one else to play at left-back."
Ghana midfielder Stephen Appiah is on trial at Tottenham and could be one of several fresh faces arriving during the transfer window.
Redknapp said: "I would like to get another three or four decent players in. I think we need to."
Spurs were 1-0 down to Burnley at half-time but fought back to win comfortably.
Redknapp was delighted with his team's second-half display but conceded: "We are naive. I look at us at times and some of the young players do things where a bit of know-how is missing."
