England suffer Lennon injury blow
Aaron Lennon
Lennon has won nine caps for England
Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron is a doubt for England's Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Russia next month after having knee surgery.

Spurs manager Martin Jol expects Lennon to be back in training with the first-team squad at the end of August.

"Aaron had a small tear in his knee and had an operation on the outside of his cartilage," said Jol.

"He had no reaction and is moving on now and doing conditioning work with the coaches," added Jol.

Lennon will miss the start of the Premier League season when Spurs visit promoted Sunderland on Saturday and matches against Everton, Derby County and champions Manchester United.

England host Israel on 8 Sepember and Russia four days later in Group E.

Steve McClaren's side are fourth, three points adrift of leaders Croatia and the Israelis and one behind the Russians.

Lennon is the latest injury for McClaren, with central defender and captain John Terry also a doubt for England with damaged knee ligaments.
