Davids has given Spurs a boost |
Tottenham have received a boost after Edgar Davids pledged his future to the club for another year. Davids, 33, has one more year on his contract but was subject to interest from Ajax during the summer.
Spurs boss Martin Jol has confirmed the Holland international has rejected the chance to return home.
Jol said: "Ajax wanted him, but he wanted to stay here. He wants to be at Spurs, there is no issue and he has the mentality we need."
Jol is convinced the veteran midfielder still has a key role to play at White Hart Lane.
The Spurs coach has also received encouraging news as defender Anthony Gardner came through a pre-season friendly at Fisher Athletic.
Gardner sustained a shin problem at the club's training camp in France but played 73 minutes against the Conference club.
The defender said: "I was delighted to be back out there, getting my legs moving again in a game situation and getting my rhythm back.
"It's never ideal to have an injury in pre-season although I suppose getting it now is better than when the season has actually started. At least I can get some kind of fitness again before the start of the season.
"I feel good at the moment, had no problems injury-wise at Fisher and I'm raring to go now."
