Jol delight at battling late win
Tottenham manager Martin Jol
Tottenham manager Martin Jol described his team's 3-1 win over Portsmouth as a fair result, despite having to wait for two late goals to secure the points.

"If you see the possession and the effort, we dug deep and I think we deserved to win," said the Dutchman.

"They have a new manager, everyone wants to impress and fight for his place, so they were always dangerous.

"But I'm very pleased with this result. We had to make some substitutions and we finished them off."

Tottenham fell behind to a first-half goal from Lomana LuaLua but battled back after the break, with Ledley King heading in an equaliser.

Mido's controversial penalty on 85 minutes and a late goal from Jermain Defoe secured the win.

"It was tough," added skipper King. "If you go 1-0 down it's going to be tough. It was a trial for us to get back into the game.

"We had time enough to get a second one after that and we had confidence in ourselves.

"Things are going well and we are just hoping we can keep it up."
