Tottenham coach Martin Jol says he might use the money from the sale of Fredi Kanoute to move for Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt. "There are many players on our list and Dirk Kuyt is one of them," said Jol after seeing Kanoute leave for 4.4m.
"He's a player anyone would want in their team. With Kanoute, we had to make a decision and we did. When I think about it I think we did well."
Kuyt, 25, who is valued by Feyenoord at about 12m, scored 29 goals last term.
Kuyt has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, but Jol is keen to bolster his strikeforce which now consists of Jermain Defoe, Mido and Robbie Keane.
"You can play with three strikers but maybe Mido will be injured again. It's better to have four strikers," said Jol.
"We could have had Dean Ashton last season but we went for Mido instead.
"I feel it would be a bit sloppy going back for him when we had the chance to sign him then.
"We had money to spend anyway but now we have more after the sale of Kanoute.
"We might now be in a situation where we could buy a better player than Kanoute."
