Spanish side Sevilla have completed the signing of Mali striker Fredi Kanoute from Tottenham in a �4.4m deal. The 27-year-old has signed a four-year contract after passing a medical with the La Liga club, who recently sold striker Julio Baptista to Real Madrid.
"With a couple of days training I'll be ready to play and I hope to adapt as quickly as possible," said Kanoute as he was unveiled to the Spanish media.
Kanoute will be competing with Javier Saviola and Luis Fabiano for a place.
Kanoute added: "I decided to come here because I knew that both the club's president and sports director wanted me and that was very important for me.
"I like the Spanish league and I think this is a good opportunity."
Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido said they may end up paying Spurs another �675,000 depending on how many appearances he makes.
"He's going to bring us the sort of skills we thought the team needed," said Sevilla sporting director Ramon Rodriguez.
"He's tall, good in the air, skilful and strong and can play up front or just behind the lead striker.
"With the players we've signed we've now got a great attack and the coach will have plenty to choose from."
Kanoute scored 21 goals in 73 appearances for Spurs, but fell out of favour at the end of last season when he refused to go on a club tour to Mauritius for "personal reasons".
The Hammers had brought Kanoute to the Premiership in a �3.7m deal from Lyon in 2000 and he hit 31 goals in 84 games there before moving to White Hart Lane.
West Ham boss Alan Pardew admitted he had considered trying to bring him back to Upton Park this summer but fans influenced his decision not to.
Kanoute attracted criticism from some Hammers supporters towards the end of his spell there who felt he did not always show the commitment to back up his ability.
