Mabizela has 10 caps for South Africa

Mabizela, dubbed OJ by supporters after he revealed his middle name is Oldjohn, arrived at White Hart Lane from the Orlando Pirates last month and has made one appearance in the reserves.

The 22-year-old defender admits it will take time for him to adapt to the English game but insists he is trying hard to make the transition a successful one.

"I'm working very hard at the moment to get into shape to get into the team," said Mabizela.

"It is very hard, but I am trying my best.

"Of course, everything is different to South Africa. I am trying to adapt to the level of football over here - it is difficult but I am trying very hard.

"My first game was in pre-season against Sporting Lisbon and I think I did well - it was a good experience for me.

"I think it will take time for me to play in the Premiership but I am looking forward to it."

Mabizela joins Spurs

Mabizela has thanked his new team-mates for helping him adjust to life in north London and revealed his ambition is to follow in the footsteps of his former international colleague and Leeds defender Lucas Radabe.

"They are very good players at Tottenham and they have treated me so well," he added.

"They are good people and have done well by me. Right now it is good, I have settled but still have a way to go.

"I think Lucas has done very well to set the standard for us up and coming players from South Africa.

"For me to follow in his footsteps is a big chance - I might even go beyond him and do better."
