Paul Buckle lays out his plans for Torquay's squad
Buckle will take his men to Chesterfield in the League on Saturday
Torquay boss Paul Buckle says he has given his players a frank assessment of their future at the club.
Buckle used the opening of the January transfer window as a chance to tell them if they are part of his plans for the Gulls.
The Torquay manager told BBC Devon: "I've addressed all the players that are here, some have got new deals and some haven't.
"It's not easy at all, but it's my job, and it's the way I want to do the job."
Since the start of January Buckle has been busy moving players in and out of Plainmoor, with Chris Zebroski and Eunan O'Kane both signing permanently for the club, whilst striker Elliot Benyon has extended his contract until 2011.
In the opposite direction, Steve Adams, Lee Hodges, Ben Joyce and Chris Todd have all been sent out on loan, whilst both Michael Brough and Tim Sills have left permanently, signing deals with Mansfield Town and Stevenage respectively.
Buckle said: "I think if you're honest with people and you look them in the eye and tell them the truth, then in the end they're not always going to be happy, but they respect you."
With the transfer window remaining open until the end of the month Buckle is keen to tie up any further issues regarding contracts as soon as he can.
He said: "I don't think there's anything worse when you're a player and there's new players coming in on two-year contracts and you haven't been sorted out yourself.
"But even the ones that haven't, if they do stay, they know that I'll give them everything and they'll give the club everything, so it keeps it nice and healthy."
