Ward's seven months at Plainmoor could earn Torquay over 150,000
Torquay could make as much as 75,000 from Chesterfield's decision to sell striker Jamie Ward to Sheffield United.
The Gulls sold Ward to the Spireites on January transfer deadline day in 2007 for a fee in excess of 100,000.
Torquay have told BBC Devon that they had a clause inserted in the deal which saw them receive 25% of any profit Chesterfield made if they sold Ward on.
The Blades have signed Ward for an initial fee of 330,000 which could rise to as much as 400,000.
Torquay signed Ward from Aston Villa, who he had joined as a youngster, on a free transfer in July 2006.
During his seven-month spell at Plainmoor, Ward scored 11 goals in 29 league and cup appearances.
