Former Torquay manager Paul Compton has returned to Plainmoor to head up the club's new youth department.
United have resurrected their youth team for the forthcoming season and have called on Compton to lead it.
Compton made his name leading the Gull's youth set-up in the 1990s before rising to first-team manager.
He left in 2001 to take over the youth department at Swansea City and was also employed by Cardiff City as their head of recruitment.
Compton is credited with unearthing a host of young Torquay players who went on to play at the highest level, such as Darren Moore, Duane Derby and Paul Hall.
His last role was as assistant manager at relegated Blue Square South side Dorchester Town.
