Leeds defender Alan Sheehan extends Swindon Town loan

Alan Sheehan
Sheehan started seven games for Town since late November

On-loan defender Alan Sheehan will stay at Swindon Town from Leeds until the end of the season, while they have extended Danny Ward's loan from Bolton.

Sheehan, 23, joined Town in November and can play at left-back or midfield, and Ward stays for another month.

Robins manager Danny Wilson said: "You saw the quality [Sheehan] possesses against Fulham and he seems to play better against the bigger teams.

"That's the sign of a quality player and we're delighted to have him back."

Sean [Morrison] got games. He helped Southend and he helped us as well in match fitness terms

Ward, 18, made his first start on Saturday against Fulham and will be available until 3 February.

Wilson said: "Danny Ward will come in for at least another month. We're very grateful to Bolton for allowing that but hopefully we can extend that bit."

Meanwhile, defender Sean Morrison is due back at the County Ground next week after his loan spell at Southend finishes.

The Shrimpers had expressed a desire to keep the 18-year-old but Wilson wanted him back.

He said: "Sean got games. He helped Southend and he helped us as well in match fitness terms.

I think it's very difficult from our point of view to ask Alex [Revell] to come back and sit on the bench

"They wanted to extend it but we didn't feel it was right at this time to do that.

"I spoke to him about it and he's happy. We wanted this for a purpose, for Sean to get games, not to signal intent that he was going to go anywhere."

Striker Alex Revell's loan deal at Swindon has not been extended and he has gone back to Southend.

"I think Alex has been a victim of the two strikers [Billy Paynter and Charlie Austin] doing very well," said Wilson.

"I think it's very difficult from our point of view to ask Alex to come back and sit on the bench. He's a cracking lad and I'd recommend him to anybody."

The final bit of business at Swindon Town so far in the January transfer window is the sale of winger Anthony McNamee to Norwich for an undisclosed fee.

There is more to come though according to Wilson.

He said: "Realistically we'd like to bring in three or maybe four new players."
