Swindon win case against investor

Swindon Town have won a long-running High Court case brought by former investor Bill Power.

Power, along with his business partner Phil Emmell, had alleged that they were owed more than £1m which they had paid to the Wiltshire club in 2006.

They claimed the money was a loan, which they wanted back, while the club said it was an investment.

The current board took on the defence when their former holding company went into administration in March 2008.

Swindon will now look to recover the legal costs they incurred defending the action at the High Court.

Commenting on the case, chairman Andrew Fitton said he was delighted the matter had finally been resolved.

"We are equally delighted with the judgement, but it is just unfortunate that this matter should have found its way to court in the first place.

"Significant legal costs were incurred by all of the parties in this litigation. It is regrettable that these could not have been avoided," he added.

"Thankfully, we can now concentrate all of our efforts on continuing to re-build STFC and put the past behind us."
