Interview: Swindon Town manager Maurice Malpas
Swindon manager Maurice Malpas says his players must improve on last season's "pathetic" away record to challenge for the League One play-offs.
Town collected just 20 points on their travels last campaign and Malpas told BBC Points West that is not acceptable.
"We had an excellent home record last year and a pathetic away record. We've got to improve the away record.
"If we can get better consistency we should be thereabouts in terms of the mix for the play-offs."
"It isn't a sprint, it's a marathon. We've got to have that attitude.
"Whatever happens one week, it cannot affect the following week," he added.
Malpas says that his team will need to be flexible in their style of play to be successful.
"I want them to be organised and disciplined and, when we have the ball, I want them to be free to play.
"I don't want to see us pigeon-holed as a footballing team and we end up losing because we play too much football.
"I want us to be considered an effective team and if that means kicking it up the park, kick it up the park and score.
"If it means playing in a certain manner away from home, then we will."
