Brendan Rodgers will step up his search for a new striker before the emergency loan window shuts on 25 November.

Swansea have lost Marvin Emnes as parent club Middlesbrough wanted him back when his loan ended on Wednesday.

"Ideally we want to bring in one just to strengthen the group over a busy period or else we've got to wait until January," said Rodgers.

"There's a lot of work going on behind the scenes, and we'll see what happens in the next week or so."

Emnes scored two goals for Swansea in four appearances, including the winner over south Wales rivals Cardiff City last weekend.

But new Boro boss Tony Mowbray wants to take a closer look at all of his players, meaning his stay in Swansea came to an end.

Rodgers still has strikers Stephen Dobbie, Craig Beattie and Gorka Pintado at his disposal and he says he will be happy to work with what he has got if he cannot bring someone else in.

"We wanted to keep Marvin but it wasn't possible, but I've got good players here," he added.

"Craig Beattie's worked very, very hard to get his fitness. He's training and working well and I know he's champing at the bit to get a chance.

"Stephen Dobbie has shown us what he can do and Gorka Pintado is in the background as well.

"I've said all along when I came here that I wanted three players. I got one in Scott Sinclair, we got the second one in Kemy Agustien and we're waiting on the third one.

"I felt if we could get the three players in and keep the players that we have here we could have a really, really good season.

"But I'm not a magician, I'm a coach and a manager, and I work with the players who are here and until we, as a club, can get in the players we want then the job continues.

"I'm really happy with the group. They are developing really well, have shown great motivation every day and as long as we continue to do that and maintain that, whilst on the look-out for other targets who can improve the group, then I'll be content.

"There's lots of targets and there's lots of people who fit the bill, but there's obviously other things that come into it to get a player in, in relation to his availability or in relation to the finance in that the club may not be able to afford to bring the player in we want."
