Cotterill's loan move is expected to be made permanent in January
Swansea hope that David Cotterill's stunning first goal for the club in the 2-1 Leicester FA Cup loss is just the start for the Welsh international.
"He's had a slow start, he needed to understand our style and movements and with some players that can take a bit more time," said manager Paulo Sousa.
"We know what he can do for us - and it's a lot. We'll keep helping him to put his game together.
"We have the players to score from long range, we need to see more of it."
Cardiff-born Cotterill completed his loan move from Sheffield United to the Liberty Stadium in November, and he is expected to sign a three-year deal on Monday for an initial £500,000 fee.
The 22-year-old, who has 15 caps for Wales, started his career at Bristol City.
In August 2006, he joined Wigan Athletic for £2m, but made just 18 Premier League appearances in 18 months, prompting a July 2008 move to the Blades.
He has been slow to show his class at Swansea, but his stunning 30-yard strike at the Walkers Stadium will have whetted the lips for more.
Hopefully that goal can give me a bit of confidence
David Cotterill
"I hope the goals come freely now if I can stay in the side," Cotterill told BBC Sport Wales.
"We need more goals, hopefully I can help the boys along.
"I would have preferred a win to scoring a goal like that, but that's the way it goes.
"I still feel that I can do a lot better and get into the game more, but hopefully that goal can give me a bit of confidence."
Cotterill's Wales and Swansea team-mate Joe Allen has no doubt about the class that the wide man can bring to the club.
"That's exactly what he can do and why we've brought him here," said the midfielder.
"He has the ability to run at players with pace and to score goals, he's a great asset to us.
"A goal like that one deserved to be for the winning side, but that's football.
"We were in control before Andy King's equaliser. Maybe if we'd got that second goal... we missed a couple of opportunities and their keeper made some good saves.
"One of the things we know we need to improve on is getting goals when we are on top in games.
"Maybe we gave in to the pressure a little bit towards the end.
"We didn't get the same game going in the second half as in the first, we let them dictate to us in the way we are used to doing to other teams.
"But our focus will turn back to the next game, back to the league."
