Interview: Roberto Martinez on the Swans play-off hopes and trip to Sheffield United
Swansea manager Roberto Martinez says he cannot rely on other teams slipping up to boost their own play-off hopes.
The Swans need a maximum six points from their final two games starting at Sheffield United on Saturday and hope Burnley only pick up two points.
"If we get to 74 points I think we will make the top six," said Martinez. "If not it will be unfortunate.
"In that respect, I don't believe in relying on other teams and other results to achieve our own aims."
Should the Clarets draw their last two games, the Swans can match them on 74 points with two wins and make it into the top six because of a superior goal difference.
One point from the last two games for Burnley would see Swansea leap-frog them with maximum points and not have to rely on goal difference.
But a Burnley win would end Swansea's play-off hopes regardless of how the Welsh club fare.
Whether the Swans make it or not, Martinez is delighted with their progress in the first season back at Championship level for 24 years.
"In the summer... I don't think many people would have given Swansea City any hope of fighting for a top six position," he said.

"There are many, many signs of showing how well the players have done this season.
"The fans have also played a massive role in where we are this season. They know that we will be disappointed if we don't finish in the top six because our standards are really, really high."
And Martinez says the Swans are under no pressure going into Saturday's match with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
"They have to win to get into the automatic promotion spots," he said.
"We are the visitors and they should take control of the game and in a way try to dictate things. We are going to be there to try and upset that.
"We need to make sure we get the three points at Bramall Lane.
He added: "They are very experienced. They play in a certain way which is hard to stop. They are very effective.
"They know how to win games and they can score from anything."
