Interview: Swansea boss Roberto Martinez
Manager Roberto Martinez says there is little margin for error if Swansea are to reach the Championship play-offs.
Martinez takes his side to Ninian Park on Sunday for a crucial south Wales derby against rivals Cardiff.
The Bluebirds occupy the last play-off spot, five points ahead of the Swans, but also have two games in hand.
"I think the position we are in, we need to finish this season very, very strong if we are going to have a chance to compete in the play-offs," he said.
"If you look at the 18 points left in the campaign and we've got very little margin of error if we want to get to the points tally that we hope is going to give us a play-off place.
"But in a way, I want it that way because it's different when you are in the play-off places and you are just hoping to get in the play-offs."
Swansea's surge to play-off contention in their first season in the Championship faltered just before the international break.
After briefly making it into the top six for the first time last month, the Swans suffered consecutive defeats to Crystal Palace and Queens Park Rangers, before drawing at Sheffield Wednesday.
But Martinez says the players are refreshed going into the final stage of the season.
"I think the break has done us the power of good and the boys are training with big smiles on their faces, which is a good sign," said the Spaniard.
"Now we've got a mini league of six games to go, starting with a Welsh derby at NinianPark.
"But we must remain focussed and set the standard for the five games after Cardiff.
"But I think the players are ready to go into the sort of environment they'll face at Ninian Park.
"It's one of those games where we have to be 100 per cent because those small details count."
The match is the Swans' last scheduled visit to Ninian Park before Cardiff move to the new Cardiff City Stadium a stone's throw away from the old ground.
The two sides drew 2-2 in the league in November at the Liberty Stadium, but Swansea won the Carling Cup clash 1-0 two months earlier.
