Owain Tudur-Jones signed for Swansea City from Bangor City

Swansea City midfielder Owain Tudur Jones has joined League One strugglers Swindon Town on a month-long loan deal.

The 24-year-old has had few opportunities at the Liberty Stadium this season having made just four starts in the Championship.

"The manager and I agreed that I needed to play some games," said Tudur Jones.

Manager Roberto Martinez says it would be a "great experience" for the Welsh international but insists he still has a "big future" at Swansea.

Swindon have recruited the three-times capped Wales international, who has not been helped by his consistent knee injuries, as the Robins attempt to stave off relegation.

"With Swindon dropping into the relegation zone over the weekend it's a difficult time for them," said Tudur Jones.

"But if I can add something to the squad to help them, that's what I will be looking to do."

Teenager Joe Allen has jumped ahead of Tudur Jones in Swans boss Roberto Martinez's midfield pecking order despite injuries to Ferrie Bodde and the recently returned Darren Pratley.

Tudur Jones, who made his international bow against Luxembourg in March 2008, signed for Swansea from Welsh Premier side Bangor City in 2005.

But his Liberty Stadium career has been beset by serious knee injuries and suffered almost two seasons on the sidelines.

The former Chelsea triallist, who has visited renowned American surgeon Dr Richard Steadman to help his ongoing knee problems, admits he needs regular first-team football to improve his international ambitions.

"He needs game time to bring him up to full match speed," said Martinez.

"I'm sure we'll have an even better player returning to us at the end of his loan spell for the final run in.

"He is still adapting after his long-term lay-off, he has improved massively in every department since coming back.

"Owain is still a young man, he is a huge player for ourselves and Welsh football. We need to make sure we give him the best possible way to fulfil his potential.

"We hope he enjoys his experience at Swindon because he needs regular first-team football."
