Ferrie Bodde is Swansea City's top goal-scorer this season
Ferrie Bodde insists he was more happy with victory than his 35-yard wonder strike at Preston as Swansea secured their first league win for five weeks.
Bodde's breathtaking first-half hit and Jordi Gomez's late penalty inspired the Swans to a 2-0 success at Deepdale.
"It was a good goal but I was more happy with the result because we needed a win after Saturday's 4-0 defeat at Reading," Bodde told BBC Sport.
"After that, people were thinking that was it for Swansea - but it's not."
Influential midfielder Bodde highlighted his importance to promoted City, last year's League One champions, at Championship play-off challengers Preston on Tuesday
Everyone looks at how Juninho from Lyon can strike the ball and Ferrie has the same talent
Swansea boss Roberto Martinez
Bodde's stunning fourth goal of the season in the 19th minute at Preston, who suffered their third successive loss, gave Roberto Martinez's side early confidence.
And Bodde's incisive pass set up Gomez to be brought down by James McEveley in the box with ten minutes remaining.
The Spaniard picked himself up to fire in his third goal of the season from the penalty spot to seal Swansea's first league win since their 1-0 victory at Plymouth on 23 September.
Bodde is now Swansea's top-scorer this season and the 26-year-old said afterwards: "If you can perform like that after a big defeat at Reading, it shows what character this Swansea team have.
"A lot of people were writing us off after that but beating a very good Preston side shows we mean business," said Bodde.
"I was happy with my goal, I thought why not have a shot? So I did and I don't think the keeper expected it."
And hero Bodde enjoyed a ringing endorsement from his manager.
Martinez said: "Ferrie's goal didn't surprise me, he has such a talent that sometimes we take it for granted.
"Everyone looks at how Juninho from Lyon can strike the ball and Ferrie has the same talent - and he can probably strike equally as well with his left or right foot.
"Our performance as a whole here was exactly the response we needed following our defeat at Reading.
"Preston were a big test with plenty powerful and effective players and we showed great personality and character to get a positive result and keep a clean sheet."
