Jones made his first appearance since May after knee injury |
Swansea boss Kenny Jackett hailed Owain Tudur Jones after the midfielder came through his first game of the season in Tuesday's Jonhstone's Paint Trophy win. Jones, back from knee injury, looked to have secured a late win for Swansea with a 90th-minute goal, but Walsall hit back to force a penalty shoot-out.
Jackett said: "He came back very strong. He drove the side on very well.
"I'm delighted to have him back; not just for his goal but for his presence and attitude in the side."
Jones was one of six changes to the side that beat Chesterfield away in League One on Saturday, as Jackett used a 4-5-1 formation at Bescot Stadium.
Swansea struggled going forward under the new set-up, but Jackett said he was delighted to come out on top after penalties against League Two leaders Walsall.
He said: "We've got a result against somebody who's got 31 points from 14 games and who've won all their seven home games without conceding a goal.
"And it was interesting for me because I made a lot of changes.
"We didn't create a lot going forward but we worked hard, stuck to our task and defended well when needed.
"You want to keep building wins - it's a great habit to have. We've gone twice on the road and won both games."
