Sunderland's Michael Turner targets derby win for fans
Turner is set to make his first derby appearance for Sunderland
Sunderland defender Michael Turner says the side must impress the club's supporters when they face Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Tyne-Wear derby will be Turner's first taste of the rivalry between the two North East clubs following his move from Hull City in August 2009.
"It's a massive game for the fans and we need to produce for them," Turner told BBC Newcastle.
"It's important to put on a show for them and put in a good performance."
Newcastle's relegation to the Championship in 2008-09 ensured there would be no derby last season, but the Magpies' immediate return to the top-flight has renewed acquaintances between the two clubs.
The Black Cats' last visit to St James' Park in February 2009 ended in a 1-1 draw, with Djibril Cisse giving Sunderland the lead before Shola Ameobi levelled from the spot.
"Everyone's really looking forward to it," Turner added.
"The boys who have played in the derby before can't wait to get in there and those who haven't are just as excited about the game.
"It's important to get a good start and try to keep them [the Newcastle fans] quiet.
"There's obviously going to be a good atmosphere and they're going to get behind the team. These are feisty occasions, supporters from the same area come together for their team.
"It's a big game and one we're all looking forward to."
