Nosworthy has been with Sunderland since June 2005
Sunderland defender Nyron Nosworthy has signed a new contract at the club.
The 29-year-old, who joined from Gillingham in 2005, has committed his future to the Black Cats until 2012.
"Nyron has impressed me," said boss Steve Bruce. "He has a great work ethic and typifies the strong presence Premier League teams need."
Nosworthy has made 116 appearances for the Stadium of Light outfit since joining on a free but has found himself down the pecking order this season.
Sunderland have a plethora of centre-back options, with Anton Ferdinand, Michael Turner, John Mensah, Paulo Da Silva and Nosworthy vying for places in Bruce's starting line-up.
Nosworthy has started only one league game this campaign and featured in two others, also starting the Carling Cup tie at Norwich in August.
