Fulop has made the goalkeeper's position his own at the Stadium of Light

Sunderland goalkeeper Marton Fulop believes the strength in depth at the Stadium of Light will be enough to keep them in the Premier League this season.

With Middlesbrough in the relegation zone and Newcastle in trouble, North East football is in poor health but Fulop believes Sunderland will survive.

"Players feel the same, we shouldn't fear relegation with the quality we have," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"If we can get one or two wins then we will be fine, we have work to do."

The Hungary international has been on the fringes for much of his time on Wearside, playing number two to Darren Ward on his arrival in January 2007, and then Craig Gordon after the Scotland international's �9m move from Hearts in August 2008.

However this season the 25-year-old has made the most of his first-team opportunity under both Roy Keane and his successor Ricky Sbragia and has featured in 24 of the Black Cats' 25 last league and cup games.

But, having endured long spells on the bench himself, Fulop is keen to remember his loyalty to the his fellow goalkeepers.

"Keepers need each other to perform well, I couldn't perform well if Craig and the other goalkeepers aren't pushing me hard," the former Spurs man said.

"They really support me as well, I did the same when I was number two and Craig was different class in goal and I think we need each other for us to get to higher levels."
